What are Veins and Capillaries?

Veins and capillaries are blood vessels common to all and most people have some visible signs close to the skin surface. They are a common occurrence, and most people have some visible signs.  In some cases, they appear in proliferation and are considered unsightly; treatment of visible veins and capillaries (such as spider veins or telangiectasia) is a commonly sought cosmetic procedure. These vary in size, shape, and number, and may arise from a variety of natural sources such as aging, genetics, or from the environment such with sun-damaged skin.

Treatment Options

There are a variety of treatment options that may help the appearance of veins and capillaries; including over the counter remedies and prescription medications/ointments. These are not permanent solutions.  Other more permanent options include energy based treatments, such as with a laser or high-energy light.

How do Laser or high-energy light treatments work?

Laser or high-energy light based treatments work by targeting the hemoglobin within the target vessel.  The energy precisely targets the vessels under the surface of the skin and ablates or shrinks the vessel so it is no longer visible.  Because the laser is targets the vessel the surrounding tissue remains undamaged.

Treatment of darker skinned patients is more challenging because the pigments in dark skin are similar to those in the veins and coagulated blood, but a good device used carefully by an expert can provide good results. A good laser for veins also allows the user to adjust settings so that treatment may be customized for the individual patient’s needs, delivering the most energy safely to promote the desired effect. More than one treatment may be necessary for best results.

How comfortable are Treatments?

Treatment comfort will vary depending on procedure, device used and personal tolerances. Lutronic devices are designed to maximize your comfort during treatment.

How Long are Healing and Down Times?

Some laser or energy-based procedures offer little or no downtime.  More intensive procedures have longer downtimes of 5-7 days. Healing times can vary and depend on several factors, such as treatment, location, size of area treated, device used and individual.
